Making A Difference . . . Making A Match

Community Services Foundation has long supported the work of non-profit agencies providing care to people with mental illness and developmental disabilities. While the demand for service continues to increase, non-profit entities face immense economic challenges. The state of Illinois is cash-strapped and has significantly cut funding to social service agencies. Unfortunately, most non-profit organizations have no room in their budgets to provide for specialty equipment and life enrichment experiences.

In late 2003, Community Services Foundation introduced the Making A Difference . . . Making A Match program to address this problem. We matched, dollar for dollar, donations made by individuals on behalf of our affiliates, Charleston Transitional Facility and Southwest Community Services, Inc.

Together, we are making a difference! The donations and matched funds helped purchase these items:

Charleston Transitional Facility

  • A therapeutic swing that would give people in wheelchairs the opportunity to to move their bodies in a different way.
  • YMCA passes to be shared by individuals with developmental disabilities for physical exercise.
  • Equipment for the music and art therapy programs.
  • Dental fees not covered by insurance.
  • Eye glasses not covered by insurance.

Southwest Community Services

  • Computers and software for use by people with disabilities.
  • Adaptive computer equipment and specialized software.
  • Videos, DVDs, and workbooks for job skills programs.
  • Greenhouse items for a horticulture therapy program in Tinley Park.
  • Suit Therapy tuition for 1 person at the Phoenix Center in Tinley Park.

Since inception, the Matching Program has raised $131,112!
